With just five days until Costa Rica gets set to take the field at Copa America, the squad’s star goalkeeper could be in doubt for the tournament.
Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas has reportedly suffered an achilles tendinopathy in his left foot, according to his club team.
Navas played a key role in Real’s Champions League title on Saturday against rivals Atletico Madrid, but now his role for Los Ticos is seriously in question. No decision has been made by the CONCACAF nation as to whether they’ll attempt to add an additional keeper, however, that prospect seems quite likely.
Costa Rica called up two additional goalkeepers in their 23-man roster, Alajuelense’s Patrick Pemberton and Leonel Moreira of Herediano.
Los Ticos will begin Group A play at Copa America on Saturday against Paraguay, before facing the United States and Colombia.
How do Navas’ injury affect Costa Rica’s Copa chances? How will they fare in the group without their star goalkeeper?
